New Delhi, 8th January 2021: A viral video of an Indian-origin Sikh taxi driver getting attacked in America has come to light. An unidentified man attacked a Sikh driver outside the JFK International Airport, taking off his turban and throwing it away. The attacker also used abusive words against the driver. The video of this fight is going viral on social media.

On January 4, Navjot Pal Kaur uploaded the 26-second video on Twitter. She said that the video was shot by a passerby at the airport. In the video, the attacker can also be heard allegedly using abusive words against the victim. He repeatedly beats him and takes off his turban.

Kaur said, “This video was taken by a viewer at John F. Kennedy International Airport. I do not own the rights to this video. But I just wanted to highlight the fact that hatred persists in our society and unfortunately, I have seen Sikh cab drivers getting assaulted again and again.”

There was no further information available about the driver or the cause of the incident.

Expressing his anger over the incident in the video, Simran Jeet Singh, author and director of Simran Aspen Institute’s Inclusive America Project, tweeted, “Another Sikh cab driver assaulted. This happened at JFK airport in New York. Very disturbing to see this. But we mustn’t ignore it. It is painful to see our fathers and elders getting attacked. They are just trying to lead an honest life.”
