Pakistan, 1st January 2022: Hindu devotees from many countries including India are going to visit this week the historic temple located in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. A total of 250 pilgrims will arrive from the US, UAE, and India. Out of these, a batch of 160 passengers is from India.

This historic temple built in Teri village of Karak district was attacked by fundamentalists and caused major damage. After this, it has been rebuilt on the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and now it has been opened for devotees. This temple is also famous for the Samadhi of Paramhans Ji Maharaj.

Swami Paramhans Ji Maharaj was born in 1846 in the Chhapra district of Bihar. Born in a Brahmin family, Paramhans’ mother died in his childhood. His father Tulsiram Pathak was a priest and one of his hosts, Lala Narhari Prasad, had lost his son.

In such a situation, he talked about taking the responsibility of upbringing Yadram, who was deprived of his mother’s love. Swami Paramhansa’s real name was Yadram. Raised in a Kayastha family after losing his mother, Yadram also lost Lala Narhari Prasad at the age of 11.

Yadram had an interest in spirituality since childhood and often took part in spiritual discourse ‘satsangs’. In the meantime, in a satsang, Sant Paramhans Shri Swami ji of Varanasi had reached Chapra, where he had a large number of devotees.

During this time he reached Narhari Prasad’s house and gave initiation to Ramyad. Ramyad took information about Brahma Vidya from the Guru. Meanwhile, at the age of 11, Yadram lost his father Narhari Prasad. After that, he had only his mother’s support.

This was the period when he started being absorbed in spirituality and gradually turned towards renunciation. He was the heir of two families and could lead a decent life. But he took the path of spirituality and became a monk. It was his Guru Paramhans Ji who gave him renunciation and his new name became Mahatma Advaitanand. However, he became popular among his followers as Paramhans Ji Maharaj.

Paramhans Ji Maharaj was virtuous and often used to wear only loincloths. Even though he was born in Bihar, at one point his followers were from all the states of North India to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He died in 1919 in Teri village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Samadhi is present there.

Even today people in Teri village come to pay obeisance at the Samadhi of Swami Paramahansa along with the temple. Even after the partition of the country, people from many other countries including India have been going here.

It is said about Swami Advaitananda that ‘his devotee Shri Bhagwan Das was a clerk in the salt department.’

Once he met Swami Paramhansa, he asked: “how I would be promoted to the post of Inspector.” On this Swami Paramhans said, “forget the post of Inspector, you will become the Superintendent.” That’s what happened and he became the superintendent.

It is said that after this Bhagwan Das requested Swami Paramhans ji to come to his village, Teri. After this Swami Paramhans reached Teri village in 1889 and then started living there. It was here in 1919 that he passed away and then a temple and mausoleum were built in his memory.
