Nainital, 15th November 2021: Some protesters torched and pelted stones at the bungalow of Congress leader Salman Khurshid in Ramgarh.
The door of Khurshid’s bungalow was burnt by the fire and the glass of many windows was also broken. The caretaker has also alleged six rounds of firing took place.
According to the caretakers, the arsonists and stone pelters were BJP workers. However, the BJP Mandal President has denied the involvement of the workers in the incident of setting the house on fire.
BJP workers have been protesting against senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid for allegedly comparing Hindutva with terrorist organizations in his new book.
Today, BJP Ramgarh Mandal also held an effigy burning program outside Khurshid’s bungalow in Ramgarh in Nainital. It is being told that the protesters reached the premises of his bungalow at around 1 pm to burn the effigy.
The caretakers posted there protested but the protesters did not agree and burnt the effigy on the premises itself. Due to this, the dispute escalated and in the meantime, some people started pelting stones by burning the door of the bungalow with the effigy fire.
It is alleged that the protesters, who came to burn the effigy, abused the family of the caretaker and the local women working here. Only after that, the situation deteriorated there. This angered the families of the caretakers and they started raining down on the protesters. It was only after this that the house was pelted with stones and the house was set on fire.
BJP’s Ramgarh Mandal President Kundan Chilwal said, “Our workers have not set fire to the house. The women present there were having unnecessary arguments with the workers. On this, we had asked the workers to leave from there. This incident happened after we left. We came back and helped in extinguishing the fire too.”
Nainital SSP Preeti Priyadarshini said that the matter is being investigated. Right now the situation is normal there. As a precaution, a police team has been sent. We have not received any written complaint yet. Strict action will be taken against those who are found guilty after investigation.
