SRINAGAR, AUGUST 8, 2020: Chief Justice, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Patron-in-Chief J&K State Legal Services Authority (JK SLSA) today launched a plantation drive as part of annual weeklong plantation drive being organized every year by SLSA.
The plantation drive has been launched in coordination with Forest Department with an aim to usher in a more equitable and ecologically balanced earth.
Following the guidelines issued by the Government regarding maintaining social distancing and avoid gathering in view of COVID-19 Pandemic, Chief Justice planted saplings of pine trees at her official residence in Srinagar. She underscored the importance and benefits of trees in maintaining ecological balance for survival of mankind and appealed all to plant more and more trees in their premises and surroundings as well. “It is worth reflecting that the true meaning of life is to plant trees”, she maintained.
Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA, Rajesh Bindal, also planted saplings of fruit bearing trees in the precinct of J&K High Court at Jammu.
Justice Bindal stated that the drive of this kind fosters a culture of responsibility towards nature amongst the citizens.
In this week long drive, hundreds of fruit bearing and shady trees of various varieties would be planted across the UT’s of J&K and Ladakh.
Senior officers from Judiciary and Forest Department including Dr. Mohit Gaira, PCCF; Jawad Ahmad, Registrar General; Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman DLSA Jammu; Shahzad Azeem, Registrar Vigilance; M.K Sharma, Member Secretary JK SLSA; Ramesh, CCF Jammu; Naushad Ahmad, Secretary DLSA Jammu; Adnan Sayeed, Secretary DLSA Srinagar; Sayed Aabid Nazir and DFO Srinagar were present.
