JAMMU, OCTOBER 12, 2020: A weeklong “Milch Buffolo/Cow Mela” is being held from tomorrow (12th to 18th of October) here at Bhalwal under National Adaptation Fund for Climatic Change (NAFCC) project to provide a platform to the local farmers for purchasing the animal of their choice on subsidy.

The NAFCC Project was launched in Block Bhalwal of Jammu Division in the year 2016-2017 covering its 25 villages under 11 Panchayats with the aim of to reduce the adverse affects of Climate Change on farming.

In this regard, Joint Director of Agriculture (Extension) Jammu B. K. Chandan, today chaired a meeting to review the preparedness for the event.

He also reviewed the progress under different components of National adaption Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC) Project in the Block.

Programme Officer, Sanjay Dhar; Agriculture Extension Officer Bhalwal, Vandna Kotwal and other field functionaries were also present on the occasion.

Joint Director informed that a huge number of fruit plants have been planted in the farmers’ land under this project during the current rainy season. This will help in mitigating the adverse effect of climate change in Agriculture. He said that further plantation of horticultural and fodder plants/grasses would be undertaken in the month of February for making available sufficient fodder for the livestock in autumn.

Other components discussed in the meeting included providing the superior breeds of milch animals/ poultry, distribution of high yielding variety of seeds, soil and water conservation measures and adoption of income generating allied agriculture activities etc.
