JAMMU, JULY 30, 2020: Setting the ball rolling for monsoon plantation in Jammu Region and to mark the 72nd Van-Mahotsav, the department of Wildlife Protection today kick started the Green J&K Drive 2020 at Ramnagar Wildlife Sanctuary today on 29th July of 2020.
As per an official handout, Wildlife Wing of the Forest Department has set the target of planting about 5 lakhs plants in various Wildlife Areas of Jammu Region during monsoon season.
The plants being planted are fruit, fodder and shelter trees, shrubs, herbs/ grasses, soil binders etc. The focus of the plantation activity by the Wildlife Wing is towards habitat improvement for the wild animals
Chief Wildlife Warden, J&K, Suresh K. Gupta, launched the Green J&K drive by planting sapling of fruit bearing species suitable for the Wildlife Protected Areas.
On the occasion, he appealed the participants to contribute towards conservation of forests, environment and wildlife by planting plants on all the available spaces.
Addl. PCCF-Eco Tourism, J&K, J. Frankoi, and Regional Wildlife Warden Jammu, Kumar MK, also pitched in to contribute towards this noble cause on the solemn occasion by planting saplings of fruit and fodder species.
Anil Kumar Atri, Wildlife Warden Jammu, Amit Sharma, Wildlife Warden Jambu Zoo, Arun Gupta, Wildlife Warden HQ and other staff members of Wildlife Protection Department participated in the drive and planted saplings with the pledge to continue such drives during current monsoon season.
