New Delhi, 26th August 2021: Tajikistan has dealt a severe blow to the hopes of the Taliban who are ruling Afghanistan. Tajikistan has refused to recognize the Taliban as the government in Afghanistan even before Pakistan. On Wednesday, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon told Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi that his country would not recognize the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan.

Tajikistan’s national information agency Khovar quoted the president as saying ” Tajikistan will not recognize any government in this form that has been created through persecution in this (Afghanistan) country”. Khovar said that we will not recognize any government that is formed without taking into account the condition of the Afghan people, especially all minorities. He also emphasized that Tajiks have a worthy place in the future government of Afghanistan.

During a meeting between President Rahmon and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Tajikistan announced that it would not recognize any government created by persecution in Afghanistan. He called for an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the participation of all minorities, especially Tajiks, who make up more than 46% of Afghanistan’s population.

In fact, Pakistani Foreign Minister Qureshi is currently on a four-nation tour of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran, which he started on Tuesday. It is believed that Pakistan is advocating for the recognition of Taliban from these countries. Foreign Minister Qureshi will hold talks with the leaders of these countries on the situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban occupation. The Foreign Office in Islamabad said that Pakistan believes that regional countries have a significant stake in Afghanistan’s security and stability and that coordinated efforts are needed to address common challenges.
