KATHUA, JANUARY 13, 2021: District Administration Kathua today organised “Betiyon Ki Lohri” with an aim to spread the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao(BBBP)- the flagship save girl Child campaign through Lohri: a festival to mark the end of winter season.
District Development Commissioner, Om Prakash inaugurated and presided over the programme.
Officers of District Administration, Female Sarpanchs, Anganwadi Supervisors and Workers in large number attended the cultural programme.
The scintillating cultural performances on the theme of Lohri by the girls of different age groups received thunderous applause from the audience.
The importance of Girls and healthy Child sex ratio was also highlighted by different speakers to sensitize the masses.
The DC, in his address, reiterated that the society can prosper better when girls are given their due position and equal opportunity to perform as per their caliber. He elucidated that the girls, when given due encouragement, can come out with flying colours and make the country proud. He impressed upon the officers and officials of ICDS Kathua to organised more such awareness programmes to spread the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in the society, which is essential for success of the flagship schemes.
He also called upon the elected PRI representatives to play their role in generating awareness on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in their respective areas.
All Female Officers and Sarpanchs were felicitated on the occasion.
A special Lohri bonfire was also organised wherein families of newly born girl child participated in the festival celebrations.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner distributed Bank Passbooks among the beneficiaries of Laadli Beti Schemes. The cotton bags printed with the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao were also distributed among the participants to generate awareness for avoiding the use of plastic bags.
Earlier, PO ICDS, Ritu Mahajan, in her inaugural address, said that schemes like Prodhan Abhiyan, SAG, Laadli Beti, agula Shakri Kendra, PMMVY are under the umbrella of department of ICDS which is working to educate the people properly.
