Srinagar/ New Delhi, 23rd February 2022: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway has been closed in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir since last night due to heavy snowfall in the high hills and landslides in the plains.
Banihal to Qazigund train service has also been affected due to heavy snowfall in Kashmir division. Apart from this, 41 flights have been canceled from the international airport of Srinagar.
Srinagar city has received up to five inches of snowfall, while Shopian and Tangmarg have received more than a foot each.
The Srinagar International Airport management said that it is still snowing continuously, although our snow clearing team is engaged in continuous removal of snow falling on the runway and apron. In terms of visibility, it is only up to 400 meters. So far around 41 flights have been cancelled. The flight status is constantly being updated. Passengers will be accommodated on the next available flight in upcoming flights.
According to the information, landslides have occurred due to snowfall and rain at many places on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
Traffic has been completely disrupted due to heavy snowfall in Navyug Tunnel and Jawahar Tunnel at Banihal. The work of clearing the rocks and snow lying on the national highway is going on. Flight operations from Srinagar’s international airport have also been severely affected due to snowfall.
Meanwhile, Kashmir University has decided to postpone all the examinations scheduled to be held today.
