Kolkata, 19 July, 2023: According to the Henley Passport Index, the Indian passport has been ranked 80 in terms of strength. Indian passport holders can now travel without a visa or visa on arrival to 57 nations, displaying substantial improvement in terms of its ranking.
Indian citizens can enjoy visa free travel or visa on arrival in destinations such as, Thailand, Iran, Jamaica, Indonesia, Macau (SAR China), Qatar, Seychelles, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Somalia, Oman, Tunisia, Myanmar, Nepal and many more countries. India enjoys the 80th rank, with two other countries, Senegal and Togo.
However, Indian citizens still need to acquire a visa to travel to some of the global destinations such as the United Kingdom, United States of America, Canada, and China.
Singapore grabs the position of ranking 1 at having the strongest passport, allowing visa free travel to almost 192 countries. Singapore has replaced Japan, with the former holding the position for five years. Reportedly, Japan has dropped to third place.
The ranking provided by Henley is based on data acquired from the Air Transport Association (ATI), and therefore conducting a passport index methodology on it.
