New Delhi, 17 June 2021: The Delhi Police has lodged an FIR against actress Swara Bhaskar, Twitter India MD Manish Maheshwari and Journalist Arfa Khanum Sherwani, and others for tweeting about the assault of an elderly Muslim man in Ghaziabad, U.P.
According to the reports, Advocate Amit Acharya has registered the complaint at the Tilak Marg police station in Delhi. He has alleged that Bhasker, Maheswari, Sherwani and a man named Arif Khan are trying to spread communal hatred.
Earlier, BJP MLA Nand Kishore Gurjar from Loni in Ghaziabad lodged a written complaint against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and actor Swara Bhaskar at Loni border police station alleging to spread communal hatred.
Nand Kishore said that the video about trashing an elderly man and chopping off his beard had been made viral under a conspiracy to disrupt communal harmony. The incident happened on 5 June 2021. After enquiring, Police have registered the case against the accused. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi and actor Swara Bhaskar have tried to communalise the incident by sharing this viral video from their verified Twitter account.
On Wednesday, Ghaziabad’s Police had registered an FIR against 9 accused including two Congress leaders and Twitter India for the viral video about beating and disrespecting an elderly man. They were accused of trying to form a communal angle in this matter.
In the viral video an elderly Muslim man could be seen beaten up and his beard was chopped off.
In FIR, Ghaziabad Police said, “There is no communal angle in Loni’s Incident of thrashing and chopping off the beard of an elderly man. The organizations i.e The Wire, Rana Ayyub, Mohammed Zubair, Dr Shama Mohammed, Saba Naqvi, Maskoor Usmani, Salman Nizami suddenly started to give it a communal angle in the incident without verification and spread the message for disrupting the peace and also creating differences between religious communities. Twitter did nothing to stop this viral video.”
