New Delhi, 16th August 2022: On Tuesday, FIFA, the world’s governing body of football announced that the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been suspended with immediate effect. The decision was made unanimously by the FIFA Council Bureau.
The choice was made as a result of improper interference from outside parties, which is a significant breach of the FIFA Statutes.
According to an official press release from FIFA, ‘The Bureau of the FIFA Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect owing to undue interference from third parties, which constitutes a major violation of the FIFA Statutes.’
The organisation also stated that the suspension would be removed as soon as a committee of administrators had been established to assume charge of the AIFF’s daily operations once the Executive Committee’s authority had been abolished.
The announcement went on to say, ‘The suspension means that the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, scheduled to take place in India on October 11–30, 2022, cannot currently be hosted in India as planned.’
FIFA is evaluating the tournament’s next moves as well and, if and when appropriate, will bring the issue to the Bureau of the Council.
According to the announcement, “FIFA is in continuous helpful touch with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India and is hopeful that a favourable outcome to the issue may yet be obtained.”
