JAMMU, AUGUST 16, 2020: DG Social Welfare Department, Jammu, Rehana Batul, today launched a programme on “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu today as a part of National Campaign of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment being conducted across the Country to curb the drug addiction menace.

The Ministry has identified 272 Districts (most vulnerable to drug abuse) in whole of the Country for this campaign. In case of J&K, the Ministry has identified ten districts including 4 districts of the Jammu Division including Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch.

The objective of the campaign is to increase community participation and sensitization of the people about Drug Abuse.

The objectives are to be achieved through several measures for which an Action Plan is being prepared in four districts of Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri and Poonch.

The measures included Preventive Education and Awareness Generation Programs in Schools, Colleges and Universities for Students, Teachers, Parents, Identification of adolescents and youth vulnerable to addiction through peer led intervention, providing counseling and treatment by rehabilitation centers/hospitals, formation of student clubs in college to discuss and spread awareness, identification of victims and users and taking/referring them to rehabilitation centres, Monitoring of treatment and counseling facilities in the district, Conducting training program for the service providers at the district level and below district level, Focus on Drug Treatment Clinics, Hospitals and Integrated Rehabilitation Centers for Addicts (IRCAS) Capacity Building Programs for the School Principals, Teachers, Master Volunteers, Club Leaders and Service Providers like Hospitals, Counselors Traditional Media and Social Media Pages like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram for reach to J&K Youth Community and Youth Ensuring strict implementation of ban on sale of cigarettes within 100 meters of any educational institution (Rule refers).

The Representatives of State Level Coordinating Agency for the Campaign that is the NGO namely Jammu and Kashmir Society for promotion of Youth and Masses ( JKSPYM), Drug De-addiction Centre, District Police Line, Jammu, Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan, Janipur, Jammu, Janseva Ka ek Avlokan, Jammu; some community members, officers including Deputy Director Adm, AD Schemes, AD Adm and staff of Social Welfare Department participated in the programme.
