Bareilly, 4th November 2022: With the outbreak of dengue, the blood bank is experiencing a shortage of both blood and platelets. There is no A negative and O negative blood in the district hospital.

Leaving the blood groups B and O, only one or two units of the rest of the blood groups remain. The same is the case with platelets. Similarly, in private blood banks too, relatives have to wait long hours for platelets.

Low platelets are a common symptom of a patient with dengue. The patient is at risk when platelets drop below 10,000. At that time, the patient has to have platelets transfused.

Even if there are more than fifty thousand platelets in private hospitals, more is demanded. Due to this, there is a long waiting list of the attendants in the blood bank. Many family members do not receive platelets at all. More than 150 attendees are reaching the city’s IMA blood bank daily for platelets.

Only 64 units of blood remain in the district hospital, with two of A positive, 14 of B positive, 36 of O positive, 11 of AB positive, none of A negative, one of B negative, none of O negative, and one of AB negative.

The number of dengue patients has reached 198. CMO Dr Balveer Singh said that on Thursday, 126 people were screened with NS1 cards in the district. Out of this, 23 people were found positive. 27 people have been sampled for the ELISA test. So far, 61 villages in 15 blocks are suffering from dengue.
