KUPWARA, OCTOBER 19, 2020: A 5 day Cocoon market, organized by Sericulture Department, Kupwara concluded today successfully.

As many as 547 cocoon growers from Langate, Kupwara, Handwara, Karnah and Lolab areas of the district participated in the 5 days long auction market.

On the occasion, District Sericulture Officer ( DSO) , Kupwara informed that 21.5 Metric tons of cocoon were sold by the cocoon growers fetching an amount of Rs 51.70 lacs to the cocoon growers.

It was also informed that the buyers from local silk reeling units including Himalaya Silk, Bombay Silk, ASD Silk unit and JKI besides, buyers from West Bengal also participated in the market.

DSO said that Sericulture has vast potential for income generation and the youth of the district should avail the opportunity.

The market was organized with proper adherence to COVID-19 SOPs.
