Patna, May 7, 2021: The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police has nabbed 12 people involved in cybercrimes on Friday. According to the police, the arrested accused were cheating common people in the name of providing Remedesvir medication and oxygen cylinders.
According to the officials of EOU, there has been a rise in cybercrimes during the COVID-19 pandemic. These cybercriminals are scamming citizens by taking money from them to provide Remedesvir medication and oxygen cylinder. The EOU has taken this as a challenge. These cybercrime cases were reviewed in detail by Nayyar Hasnain Khan, Additional Director General of Police of Economic Crimes Unit, Bihar. Taking the situation seriously, a special cyber team was formed under the leadership of Vishwajit Dayal, Additional Superintendent of Police.
ADG (EOU) Nayyar Hasnain Khan said, “We obtained information regarding suspicious mobile numbers. Most cybercriminals were located in Nalanda, Nawada, and Sheikhpura areas. We sent special teams to Nalanda, Nawada, and Sheikhpura. As part of a special operation, raids are being organized against these cybercriminals by coordinating with superintendents of police (SP) from the districts. During the special operation on Friday, five cybercriminals have been arrested from Nalanda, and seven have been nabbed from Nawada districts.”
Police have recovered mobile phones, SIM cards, ATM cards, and laptops from these cybercriminals. Around Rs 47,250 in cash was seized from Nalanda. The police have arrested over two dozen cybercriminals from the Sheikhpura district in a special operation going on since earlier.
“We have found many cases related to cyber fraud. In such cases, instances of criminals obtaining SIM cards by giving fake bank account numbers and wrong personal information have come to the fore. We have also found evidence of black marketing and extortion from people. Such cases are being analyzed minutely. By arresting cybercriminals on remand, considering their crime style, and crime, appropriate further action will be taken after obtaining relevant important information. The Economic Crimes Unit is serious and vigilant for effective control and prevention of cybercrime and effective actions are being taken in this direction,” said a senior officer from the EOU.
Accused arrested from Nalanda
The arrested accused have been identified as Guddu, Rammohit Choudhary, Bhola Manjhi, Pramod Kumar, and Biru Prasad. All are the residents of Katrisarai in Nalanda.
A special operation is being conducted in Sheikhpura to arrest cybercriminals for some time now and so far, over two dozen cybercriminals have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. All the accused arrested in Sheikhpura district are being questioned.
Accused arrested from Nawada
The arrested accused have been identified as Yugal Kumar (Vivo and Oppo mobile phones seized), Dharmendra Kumar (Redmi Note 7 phone seized), Nitish Kumar (six mobile phones seized), Amit Kumar (one Oppo phone seized), Vikas Kumar, and Dhananjai Kumar (Samsung phone seized). All arrested accused are residents of Warisliganj in Nawada district.
Niraj Malakar, a resident of Bahari Bigha in Nawada’s Shahpur, was also arrested. The police have seized a mobile phone and a printout from him.
