Patna, 7th May 2021: The Indian Army has come forward to help Bihar fight the coronavirus. The Army has mobilised two Field Hospitals from North-East by air to Patna to assist the state government in fighting the recent surge of COVID cases.

In a statement, Army said, “These field hospitals, which include medical specialists, medical officers, nursing and support staff will be utilised for establishing a 500 bedded hospital at ESI Patna including 100 ICU beds.”

The army said that more medical staff will be brought to these hospitals in two days. “In order to make up the strength of medical staff at the hospital, additional specialists, medical officers, nursing staff as well as trained Infantry Battlefield Nursing Assistants are being moved by air over the next two days,” the army said.

In addition, the Army has set up a special ‘Covid Management Cell’ under an officer of the rank of Director-General who will report directly to the Vice Chief of the Army. Officials said that setting up the hospital would help him coordinate his Covid-19 responses.

An army spokesperson said that the Indian Army is committed to supporting national efforts to fight the Corona epidemic. The spokesperson added, “This will bring greater efficiency in coordinating real-time responses to control the rapid increase in Covid cases across the country, including Delhi.”

Assistance is already being provided to civilians for testing, admission to military hospitals and transportation of important medical equipment, etc.
