Pune, 8th December 2022: Dr Farhat Khan, an author of a controversial book, was arrested in Pune, today, December 8. Khan was booked by Madhya Pradesh police on Saturday (December 3) for promoting communal hatred and hurting religious sentiments.
An FIR was registered following a complaint lodged by a student of Government New Law College, Indore, and a member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He claimed that the book ‘Collective Violence and Criminal Justice System’ contained offensive content against the Hindu community along with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the book promotes religious fundamentalism.
The problem emitted on December 1 when ABVP activists went on a rampage, alleging that some faculty members of the institute were promoting religious fanaticism among new students and spreading adverse opinions about the Union government and the army.
The ABVP also protested against keeping the book written by Dr Farhat Khan and published by Amar Law Publication in the university library, which forced a massive takeover on campus.
Lastly, the university administration removed the book from the library. Shortly after the controversy, the principal of the college, Dr Inam Ur Rahman, said he had suspended six lecturers from their academic duties for five days and decided to seek the help of a retired district court to investigate the allegations.
