Odisha, 31st January 2023: The accused ASI Gopal Das, who shot Odisha Health Minister Nav Das during an event on Sunday, has finally confessed his crime in the police interrogation.

Accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) rank officer Gopal Das told the officers that he had shot Nav Das in the chest. After that, two more bullets were fired, targeting him. “I had thought of doing something big so that my name would be everywhere,” he said. The people present at the spot caught hold of Gopal, otherwise, he could have showered bullets on the people as well.

On the 20th of January afternoon, Health Minister Nav Kishore Das was on an official tour at Gandhi Chowk in Brajrajnagar district. At the same time, the accused ASI Gopal Krishna Das of Gandhi Chowk police post was on duty responsible for traffic clearance. When the minister’s car reached the BJD workers, only then did the accused also reach the minister. During this, as soon as Minister Nav Das got down from the car, the ASI opened fire on him.

After this, he fired two more bullets, but in the meantime, he was overpowered and arrested. After this, a challan was made in the court on Monday night and a demand for seven days’ remand has also been made in the court.

Gopal knew that he would not have any inconvenience in firing a bullet, so he went to the minister and fired a bullet aimed at the left side of his chest. There were three bullets left in the pistol seized from him.

According to his wife, he is mentally ill and is undergoing treatment. “He doesn’t even know what he does when,” she said.

There is no consistency in the things that are coming out in the interrogation of Gopal. He is talking unrestrained here and there. He says there was a desire to do some big event so that people would recognize him. He always kept thinking in his mind to do such an incident.

He is also not saying anything about personal vendetta or being inspired by someone to commit the incident. However, Gopal had come prepared with the intention of killing the minister.
