SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 08, 2020: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan today chaired a joint meeting of Department of Industries & Commerce (I&C) and Department of Handicrafts and Handlooms (H&H) to review the overall status and performance of these departments at SKICC, Srinagar.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, Director Industries and Commerce Kashmir Mahmood Ahmad Shah, Director Handicrafts and Handlooms Kashmir Masrat- ul- Islam and district officers.
At the out set, Director Industries & Commerce Kashmir gave a Power Point Presentation to give a detailed overview of the status of the department and the performance regarding the promotion of industrial and manufacturing sector in Kashmir.
While taking the review, Advisor Baseer Khan instructed Director I&C to evaluate the performance of field functionaries with regarding the report of area wise potential for the establishment of industrial units.
Advisor asked Director I&C to obtain report of work done from GMs of districts on various aspects of their working and other tasks assigned to them on fort nightly basis and send reports to Commissioner Secretary I&C with remarks. Besides, for conducting such appraisals Advisor instructed for preparing a format.
Similarly, Director Handicrafts and Handlooms Kashmir also gave a detailed presentation on the department’s performance, vision and development.
On the occasion, Advisor Khan instructed Director Handicrafts and Handlooms to conduct exhibition of products produced locally by artists at Kashmir Haat and provide opportunity to every artisan to display his goods.
Meanwhile, Advisor impressed on him to find out the reason that why different artisans have left their profession and measures taken to motivate them to restart their profession.
Advisor also told him to check the loss this industry has suffered and submit the suggestion for the government intervention in this regard.
Meanwhile, Advisor was informed that Handicrafts department is providing training to youth to create skilled manpower besides providing access to new designs for preservation of exquisite handicrafts through School of Design.
Advisor was also informed that the department conducted virtual fairs during the covid period.
