New Delhi, 10th November, 2022: In line with the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s vision of transitioning towards e-Mobility, Airports Authority of India (AAI) is consistently endeavoring towards switching over to Electric Vehicles, encouraging airport service providers for inducting electric vehicles and developing charging infrastructure at airports.
India is among a handful of countries that support the global EV30@30 campaign, which targets to have at least 30% new vehicle sales be electric by 2030. The Government of India has desired Electric Vehicle (EV) penetration of 30% for private cars, 70% for commercial vehicles and 80% for two and three-wheelers by 2030.
The EV30@30 campaign redefines the ambition of the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) ’s Electric Vehicles Initiative (EVI), setting the objective to reach a 30% sales share for EVs by 2030. The CEM brings together the world’s largest and leading countries, international organizations and companies to achieve a single mission: accelerate clean energy transitions.
Initially, AAI inducted 10 E-Vehicles for official use at its Corporate and Regional Headquarters at New Delhi under green initiative. Today, a total of 45 of e-Vehicles has been engaged at AAI Airports & Offices spread across the country through direct purchase for original equipment manufacturer OEM/ hiring, for airside operations & city side usage requirements.
Electric vehicles (EV) can be charged in a variety of ways, depending on location and requirement. Accordingly, public charging infrastructure for EVs is of different types and designed for different applications. AAI is encouraging Govt. Organizations / Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) (State/Central) / Government DISCOM and similar other Public entities to build and operate Public EV charging infrastructure at parking lots of Airports as well as air side area.
AAI is focusing on consideration to Electric Vehicles while hiring/leasing/purchasing against replacement of AAI owned ICE vehicles which are fulfilling condemnation norms. Actions have been taken by AAI for switching over from existing AAI Diesel, Petrol & CNG Vehicles to e-Vehicles at various AAI Airports along with charging stations to ensure proper charging facility.
The number of vehicles in India has been increasing rapidly over the last decade. However, vehicles driven on fossil fuels are a major source of environmental pollution and pose serious health hazards and stocks of fossil fuels are fast depleting across the globe. The situation demands that alternative clean, eco-friendly technologies be explored for running of vehicles. AAI as a responsible organization is committed for achieving 100 % target for switching over to Electric vehicles by 2030
