New Delhi, 17th May 2021: The messaging app WhatsApp has said that it will not give any respite to the users regarding the privacy policy. WhatsApp said in the Delhi High Court on Monday that it asked users to accept the new privacy policy. The social media company told the court through its lawyer Kapil Sibal that it was asking users to accept the privacy policy on its behalf.

Not only this, users who do not accept this policy, their accounts will be gradually deleted. Kapil Sibal said, “We have urged the users to agree on the policy. If they do not agree, we will delete them. There is no proposal to postpone this policy.”

Controversy erupted over the company’s obligation to accept the privacy policy. The policy was announced by the company in January, after which it postponed it till May. According to the company’s new policy, WhatsApp will have the right to share some data related to user interactions with parent company Facebook.

The High Court has adjourned the case till June 3. The status quo was sought on behalf of Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma and the petitioners. The court then decided to adjourn the hearing of the case.

The company withdrew its policy due to protests at the time but said in February that it would proceed with its decision. The central government had written a letter to WhatsApp demanding postponement of the privacy policy, but even after this, the company has not changed its decision.

The bench of Chief Justice DN Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh has issued notices to the government and both Facebook and WhatsApp asking them to take sides. Chats, photos or conversations of people, who use it, whether business or personal, with friends or family, will be completely safe.

WhatsApp has filed an affidavit in response to a petition challenging its new privacy policy. WhatsApp has made it clear in the High Court that it is not legally bound to offer its service to any user, even if they can leave its platform and delete WhatsApp from their mobile. The matter will be heard before the bench on Monday.
