West Bengal, 28th March 2022: There was a huge uproar in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Monday over the Birbhum incident. The matter escalated to the extent that there was a clash between TMC and BJP MLAs on the floor of the House.

A TMC MLA had to be admitted to the hospital, he was bleeding from his nose. At the same time, the opposition alleged that eight BJP MLAs have been injured by TMC and security personnel.

Asit Majumdar, TMC MLA from Chinsurah in Hooghly district, claimed that he was beaten by a Suvendu officer. “I broke my glasses when I went inside the assembly to stop the BJP MLAs who were fighting with the security personnel with folded hands,” he said.

After this, 5 BJP MLAs including Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari were suspended from the assembly. The Speaker has suspended BJP MLAs Deepak Burman, Shankar Ghosh, Manoj Tigga and Narhari Mahto, besides Adhikari, for all the upcoming sessions of 2022.

Suvendu Adhikari said, “As it is the last day of the House, we demanded a discussion on the law and order situation in the state. After not doing so, we protested constitutionally, after which policemen dressed in civil dress and TMC MLAs attacked our (BJP). While the opposition alleged that TMC and security personnel injured eight BJP MLAs.”

The official said that we have a march against the Trinamool Congress, their goons and the police. We will also go to the speaker regarding this. The central government should intervene regarding the situation in Bengal. “The MLAs are not safe even inside the House. At least 8-10 of our MLAs including whip Manoj Tigga were assaulted by Trinamool MLAs as we demand Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement on law and order issue,” the official said.
