Kolkata, 11th April 2022: A minor girl died after being gang-raped in the Nadia district of West Bengal. According to the police, it is alleged that a minor was  gang-raped during a birthday party at a place called Hanskhali.

The victim’s family alleges that the main accused is the son of a TMC panchayat member. Police said that the main accused has been arrested.

The victim was studying in class 9. Her parents went to Hanskhali police station four days after the incident and lodged a complaint. The main accused in this case Brijgopal Gayali was first taken into custody and then arrested last night. He has been booked under the POCSO Act.

PILs have also been filed in the Calcutta High Court for legal intervention in this case. According to the information, a hearing may be held in the High Court on Tuesday. According to the complaint, the victim had gone to the accused’s house to attend his birthday party. When she returned home, her condition worsened and she died shortly afterwards.

The victim’s mother said that when her daughter returned from the house of the local TMC leader, she was bleeding and had abdominal pain. She died before being taken to hospital.

“After receiving information from people present at the party, I know for sure that the accused and his friends gang-raped her,” she said.

She alleged that the funeral was pressured before the victim’s death certificate was received. The family says that some people had already said to get their daughter treated at a nearby clinic. Do not take him to any private or government hospital.

It is being said that Brijgopal, son of Samarendra Gayali was attracted to the victim and he had invited her to his birthday party. The victim’s family initially said that their daughter’s health had deteriorated during the party and after that, they took her to the local clinic.

Statements of the victim’s family, quack doctor and crematorium attendant were also recorded before the Judicial Magistrate in Ranaghat. The doctor said that he had given her painkillers but did not issue any death certificate. The crematorium worker said that he was not present when the victim was cremated.
