New Delhi, 21st August 2021: The Delhi government has recently announced in an update that citizens need not worry about carrying their driving license, registration certificate etc. with them at all times. These documents can be stored in DigiLocker or m-Parivahan mobile app, and can be shown to the traffic police officers and the transport department for verification.

A notice issued by the government said that these documents are valid under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and will be legally recognized as those issued by the Transport Department. The notice states that the electronic record of driving license and registration certificate available on Digi-locker or m-Parivahan has also been recognized as the original document as per the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. “The Traffic Police and the Enforcement Branch of the Transport Department duly accept the electronic form of Driving License and Registration Certificate when displayed in DigiLocker and m-Parivahan App,” the notice said.

An important point to note is that these soft copies, or digital copies, will not be considered acceptable as original records of a person’s driving license and registration certificate, if they are made in any other form.
