Bengaluru, 11th February 2022: Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister B.C. Nagesh on Friday indicated that the government may decide on reopening pre-university and degree colleges on February 14. The government on Thursday decided to resume classes for high school students till class 10 from February 14 and for pre-university and degree colleges thereafter.

On Friday, Education Minister Nagesh said high school classes would resume on Monday. An attempt will be made to decide starting classes for PUC and degree college students during a meeting to be called by the Chief Minister on Monday evening.

The Karnataka High Court in its interim order, pending consideration of all the petitions related to the hijab controversy, had on Thursday requested the state government to reopen educational institutions and allow all students to wear saffron stoles, scarves, hijabs and any religious rituals in the classroom. However, the flag was banned from wearing.

As further protests against Hijab intensified in different parts of Karnataka and turned violent in some places. The government had declared a holiday for three days in all high schools and colleges of the state from Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Home Minister Araga Gyanendra said that the Superintendents of Police of all the districts have been instructed to maintain peace, law and order whenever educational institutions reopen. He said, “the police is ready to deal with any situation, our police force has already gone to various states where elections are being held, we are not sending any more forces and the local police and central forces will be used.”
