New Delhi, 25 May 2021: In the Lakshadweep islands, politics has become hot after a few decisions by its administrator Praful Khoda Patel. Describing Patel’s steps as anti-people, the opposition parties of the Union Territory and the neighbouring state of Kerala have demanded him to be recalled.

In fact, according to reports, Patel has lifted the ban on the consumption of alcohol from Muslim-majority islands. Also ordered a ban on beef products citing animal protection. Most of the population here is dependent on fisheries but the opposition claims that Patel ordered the transgressing of fishermen’s huts in the coastal areas based on violation of the Coast Guard Act.

NCP MP Mohammad Faizal of Lakshadweep and his colleagues from the neighbouring state of Kerala – TN Pratapan (Congress), Elamaran Karim (CPM), and ET Mohammed Bashir (Muslim League) have appealed to the Central Government to recall the Laxdweep Administrator.

At the same time, defending Patel, BJP National Vice President AP Abdullakutty alleged that the opposition MPs are protesting against Patel because he has taken necessary steps to end the corrupt practice of politicians in the archipelago. Abdullakutty is in charge of the party in Lakshadweep.

BJP leader Praful Patel was appointed as the Administrator of Lakshadweep in December 2020.

Kerala leder Hibi Eden has written to the Center claiming that several government employees, working in the tourism sector on contract have also been removed from the job without reason. He has said, “70 thousand people depend on fisheries on the island, but fishermen’s huts have been demolished.”

On Monday, General Secretary of Congress, KC Venugopal also wrote a letter to the President demanding the withdrawal of Praful Patel. Apart from this, he has also asked the President to cancel the decisions taken during Praful Patel’s tenure.
