New Delhi, 17th August 2021: Afghanistan is now ruled by the Taliban. The Head of State President Ashraf Ghani has fled the country. The echo of this change is being heard even in India.

Bindu, a resident of Thiruvananthapuram and mother of Nimisha Fathima, has urged the Indian government to bring back her daughter and four-year-old grandson from Afghanistan.

According to a report in India Today, Nimisha Fathima along with three other women had left Kerala a few years ago for allegedly joining the terrorist group Islamic State (IS). All four women were then imprisoned in Afghanistan in 2019.

There was a jailbreak after the Taliban captured Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, on Sunday. In this, a large number of prisoners have escaped from jail. It is now being speculated that four women from Kerala are trapped in Kabul after their release from jail.

Nimisha Fathima’s mother K Bindu said that she has received confirmation that her daughter and grandson are also among those released from jail.

K Bindu is now requesting the central government to intervene and expedite efforts to bring her daughter and grandson back to India. K Bindu said, “Let them come back to India and face the law of the land here.”

Nimisha Fatima left India and initially reached Iran when she allegedly joined ISIS. Later, she moved to Afghanistan. Her husband was killed in a US airstrike on ISIS targets. As a result of US-led attacks, 408 people, including women and children, surrendered to the Afghan government in 2019.

The Afghan government then asked India to take her and three other women back from Kerala. Her mother is also demanding the same, but the central government has not taken any decision on it yet.
