New Delhi, 5th September 2022:The government is preparing to change the name of Rajpath soon to Kartavya Path in New Delhi and has started preparations for the same. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has scheduled a meeting on September 7th. The agenda of this meeting is to discuss the renaming of Rajpath and the Central Vista Lawn.

The proposal of renaming the places “Kartavya Path” will be placed before the council. The path from Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s statue present at the India Gate to Rashtrapati Bhawan would be renamed “Kartavya Path”.

After the approval of the proposal in the meeting, it is expected that the Central Government will issue a notification stating the changes to be made. As soon as the proposal is accepted the two iconic places would be renamed “Kartavya Path”.

The path from the India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan is called the Rajpath. It is the same place from which Republic Day parades are carried out.

The Rajpath was known as Kingsway in the British era. In 2016 a similar change was made. The Race Course Road which led to the residence of the Prime Minister in Delhi was renamed. It was titled Lok Kalyan Marg. The Aurangzeb road was renamed Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Road on the 28th of August 2015.
