New Delhi, 19th June 2021: Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi from 1st July without a valid ‘Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag and sufficient recharge amount, authorities confirmed on Friday.

As per a public notice issued by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on 14th June, the process of installation of the RFID system at entry points of Delhi has been completed. ‘Tags’ can be purchased or money can be transferred through various sale points.

According to the notice, the Supreme Court of India with reference to order no. 10.08.2020 and the Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) has directed to collect cashless toll tax from ECC and specific commercial vehicles entering Delhi. It has also been directed that the entry of commercial vehicles without valid RFID tags and sufficient recharge amount would be prohibited entry in Delhi effective from 1st July.

Drivers and owners of all commercial vehicles will be required to show RFID tags upon entry in Delhi from the 124 entry points. A senior SDMC official disclosed on Friday that 5,02,323 RFID tags have been issued so far.

SDMC is the nodal agency for the implementation of RFID system at toll plazas in Delhi. The Municipal Corporation also has a mobile application to recharge the tag online.

Officials stated that one can recharge their tag using their debit or credit card or net banking by entering their mobile number after the installation of the ‘MCD-toll’ application. The tag can also be recharged on the official website of MCD, www.ecctagsdmc.com , using the same procedure as the application. However, no tag will be issued without verification of the vehicles.

In August 2020, SDMC had stated that the installation of RFID in 13 locations had been completed, while the remaining 111 RFID systems installations were to be completed by early 2021.

The Municipal Corporation had also said that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was decided to impose fines till 15th October on passengers for not carrying RFID tags or for insufficient balance. Officials also added that the completion of the RFID system was slowed down due to the pandemic.
