Delhi, 7th June 2022: Delhi Police has given protection to Nupur Sharma and her family, embroiled in controversy due to remarks during a TV debate on Prophet Muhammad. A complaint was given to the police on behalf of Nupur Sharma and her family that they were being threatened with death. After this the police have provided them security.
A Delhi Police official said, “Police security has been provided to Nupur Sharma and her family. They had alleged that they were receiving death threats and was being harassed after her statement.”
Nupur Sharma had made a comment on
Prophet Muhammad during a TV debate, after which there was a fuss. On the one hand, in a city like Kanpur of India, people of the Muslim community came out on the streets and violence had erupted, while India has also faced criticism at the international level.
In many countries, the campaign went on Twitter and the demand for boycott of Indian products started rising. A total of 15 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, United Arab Emirates and Iran, have so far raised objections to India on this issue.
Many countries have protested by summoning the Ambassador of India. Nupur Sharma was suspended by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday only after protests erupted in Arab countries.
Nupur Sharma contested against Arvind Kejriwal from the New Delhi assembly seat. Nupur Sharma, who was the president of Delhi University Students’ Union, got the buzz ever since she came out against Kejriwal and then she continued to grow in stature and became a national spokesperson. However, her political career is at stake due to the controversy that broke out after his remarks on Prophet Muhammad.
