New Delhi, 30 March 2022: Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement on the MCD Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday and asked the Delhi government to behave step-motherly with the municipal corporations.

The Union Home Minister said that due to this behaviour of the Delhi Government, all the Municipal Corporations do not find themselves equipped with sufficient resources to discharge their responsibilities. He also said that after organizing all the three municipal corporations, there should be one Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) again.

The Home Minister said, ‘Delhi government is treating the Municipal Corporations of Delhi step-motherly. Due to this, all the municipal corporations do not find themselves equipped with sufficient resources to discharge their responsibilities. The Home Minister said, “According to the detailed analysis and facts of the experience of the last ten years, the three corporations of Delhi should be integrated as before.” It was a hasty partition. The Home Minister said, ‘Municipal corporation services should be run with more efficiency and transparency, these amendments are also in this bill. There is also a proposal to limit the number of councilors of Delhi in this bill. Civil services should be organized on the basis of the principle of anywhere and anytime.’

It is noteworthy that the Central Government has introduced a bill in the Parliament to reunify the three municipal corporations to form the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai. The central government is claiming to strengthen the financial condition of the municipal corporation with this bill. In this, by giving 14 days notice to the cleaning workers in the houses, it has been said that all the cleaning workers should be made sure by eliminating the provision. Integrated Municipal Corporation will get more financial powers than before. This will reduce the expenses and liabilities of expenditure related to the functioning of the three municipal corporations.

BJP says that the three corporations will now get funds directly from the central government and the city will develop. Under this amendment bill, some more amendments have been approved in the original Act of 1957 as well. This allows transparency,
