New Delhi, 17th June 2022:The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed Supplementary Charge Sheet in the Court of Special Judge, Kailashahar, District Unakoti (Tripura) against 08 accused including private companies and its Directors in a chit fund case.

CBI had registered the instant case on 18.10.2019 in compliance to the orders dated 05.09.2019 of High Court of Tripura in WP(C) No. 3 of 2014 and took over the investigation of the case earlier registered at Police Station Kumarghat, District Unakoti (Tripura) Vide Case No. 57/ 2015 dated 22.10.2015 against a private company having its branch in Kumarghat and Agartala and others. It was alleged that the Complainant had deposited a total amount of Rs.9,26,000/- with the said private company at Kumarghat Branch and Rs.75,000/- with its other Branch at Aagartala during the period between 2007 and 2009. However, even after maturity dates, the accused had not returned the money to the Complainant. The State Police filed a charge sheet on 28.01.2018 against the Board of Directors of the Company & others.

During further Investigation by CBI, it was found that the accused in conspiracy with each other became the Directors and Share holders of their fund raising companies. It was further alleged that the said Directors collected huge public funds in the form of deposits by issuing Certificates in the names of real estate businesses, booking of rooms in Hotels from huge number of investors, development of industry & land, in violation of SEBI & RBI norms.

It was also alleged that the accused formed several other companies under Group of Companies, became Directors thereof and diverted the money to the other Group of Companies knowingly that these companies were loss making entities and opened several bank accounts in the names of these companies & became signatories of these Bank accounts in order to divert funds from these accounts. The accused allegedly appointed huge number of agents one above the other and induced them to collect deposits by alluring them with high percentage of commissions & incentives. They also allegedly induced the investors in investing money in the said private companies offering high percentage of returns in violation of Companies (Acceptance of Deposits) Rules, 1975. The Directors were the key decision makers in the said companies and the amount invested by the investors were allegedly diverted to loss making sister concerns of the said group, thereby the amounts were misappropriated. An amount of Rs. 191,18,90,089/- (approx) was allegedly misappropriated.

After investigation, CBI filed a supplementary chargesheet.
