Patna, 7th May 2021: The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Bihar Police has nabbed three persons for black marketing of Remdesivir. The unit had conducted search operations on Thursday. Police have recovered 40 vials from the hospital.

According to police, the search operation was conducted at Rainbow Hospital, located at Gandhi Maidan. The arrested accused have been identified as director Ashfaq Ahmed, Altaf Ahmed (brother-in-law of Ashfaq) and Medical Representative Raju Kumar.

ADG (EOU) Nayyar Hasnain Khan said, “EOU team led by DSP Bhaskar Ranjan arrested three persons with two vials of  Remdesivir from Gandhi Maidan police station area. The team later conducted searches at their premises including Rainbow Hospital and collected some details related to black marketing of injections.”

In Bhagalpur, with the joint effort of the police and drug department, the brokers of Remdesivir’s black marketing were caught. The manager of Paras Hospital was also involved in this. Police have arrested two persons including the manager. The case here was such that on the basis of wrong information, these brokers had come to take Remdesivir in the name of a dead patient. The manager of the hospital confessed that he was involved in black marketing.

The responsibility of distribution of Remdesivir has been given to the Bihar State Medical Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BSMIDC). Significantly, even after all efforts by the government to stop black marketing, if a person applies for medicine, he gets a waiting list of three to four days. The concerned person has the facility to apply on his doctor’s prescription and Aadhar card. But the current condition is that even after putting all the time to get this medicine, you cannot get it within a day or in an emergency. At the same time, brokers are taking medicines in the name of patients illegally.
