Delhi, 28th October 2022: Autorickshaw and taxi travel have become more expensive in the capital Delhi. Delhi’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has approved an increase in the fares of auto rickshaws and taxis given the rising prices of CNG.

According to a government statement, the Delhi government has increased the minimum fare for auto-rickshaws by Rs 5, for AC and non-AC taxis by Rs 2 and Rs 3 per kilometre.

With the revised rates, the meter down charge (base fare for 1.5 km) for auto rickshaws has been increased from Rs 25 earlier to Rs 30 and will now be charged Rs 11 per kilometre thereafter instead of Rs 9 and a half. However, there has been no increase in the night charge (from 11 pm to 5 am) and it has been kept at 25 per cent as before.

Similarly, meter down charges for taxis will now be Rs 40 instead of Rs 25 and non-AC taxis will now have to pay Rs 17 instead of Rs 14 and AC taxis Rs 20 instead of 16. Similarly, for taxis, there has been no increase in the night charge (from 11 pm to 5 am) and it has been kept at 25 per cent as before.

In July itself, the Delhi government had given in-principle approval to the proposal to increase the fares due to the frequent hike in CNG prices. The government formed a 13-member fare revision committee in April. The committee had recommended an increase of Re 1 per kilometre in fares for three-wheelers and up to 60 per cent increase in taxi fares.
