New Delhi, 12 March 2021: In the last four years, there was such a stampede within the Congress that about 170 of its MLAs left it and joined other parties. The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), an institution of electoral and political reforms, has reported that 170 MLAs of Congress joined other parties during the elections held during 2016-2020, while only 18 BJP MLAs joined hands with other parties.

This ADR report also said that out of 405 MLAs who switched sides in 2016-2020, 182 joined the BJP, 28 MLAs joined the Congress, and 25 MLAs joined Telangana Rashtra Samiti. According to the report, during the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, five Lok Sabha members joined other parties except for BJP. During 2016-2020, seven Rajya Sabha members of Congress joined other parties.

This ADR report said that 170 MLAs of Congress joined other parties during the elections held in 2016-2020, while only 18 BJP MLAs joined other parties during the same period.

ADR said, “It is worth noting that the formation and deterioration of the government in Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, and Karnataka was due MLAs who changed the parties. According to this report, 10 of the 16 Rajya Sabha members who re-contested the Rajya Sabha elections changed the party during 2016-2020 and joined the BJP.
