New Delhi, 3rd August 2021: The central government has put an end to the speculation about the bifurcation of the state of Tamil Nadu to form Kongu Nadu.
Today, it has been clarified by the Narendra Modi government that there is neither any proposal nor any plan with regard to the bifurcation of Tamil Nadu state. In fact, during the monsoon session, Tamil Nadu MPs in the Lok Sabha had asked the government whether they had any plans for the bifurcation of Tamil Nadu.
In Parliament, DMK MP Ramalingam and IJK (Indhiya Jananayaga Katchi) MP Parivendhar had asked the central government that if the division is to happen, they should tell what is the reason behind this partition and what is its purpose?
Earlier the discussions of making Kongu Nadu a separate state in the western part of Tamil Nadu had given rise to a new controversy. There was speculation that the central government wanted to give the region the shape of a separate state or union territory. In fact, when former Tamil Nadu BJP president L Murugan was inducted into the Union Cabinet, there was a sudden discussion about the bifurcation of Tamil Nadu.
On June 10, a local language daily had said in one of its reports that the central government was considering bifurcation to answer the state’s DMK government. On the same day, BJP Mahila Morcha President Vanathi Srinivasan also supported the claim of Kongu Nadu being a separate geographical area on her Facebook page. Srinivasan belongs to the Western region and is an elected legislator from Coimbatore, which is a part of the region.
