23rd August 2022: The government on Tuesday said that three IAF officers have been sacked for accidentally firing missiles at Pakistan. Earlier this year, India’s BrahMos missile was accidentally shot down. In its statement, the IAF said, “A BrahMos missile was accidentally fired on 09 March 2022. The services of the three officers responsible for the incident have been terminated with immediate effect. After a detailed investigation, three persons were held responsible for the incident.

On 9th March, a missile accidentally fell on the land of Pakistan. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave a detailed reply in Parliament on 15th March after Pakistan raised the matter. He said that a high-level inquiry has been ordered into the incident related to the accidental launch of the missile in Pakistan. “Unfortunately, a missile was launched by mistake on March 9. The incident happened during a routine inspection. We later came to know that it had landed in Pakistan,” he said in the Rajya Sabha.

At the same time, Pakistan said that the missile flew 100 km inside its airspace at an altitude of 40,000 feet and at three times the speed of sound. There was no warhead on the missile, so it did not explode. The missile fell in the city of Mian Channu, Pakistan. There was no major damage to property or loss of life. India immediately expressed regret over the incident.
