Kolkata, March 11, 2021: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s video has surfaced from the hospital bed after she was injured in an alleged attack during an election campaign in Nandigram, West Bengal. This video of Mamta Banerjee has been released on the Twitter account of her party TMC. In this video, Mamta Banerjee has appealed to her workers to maintain peace. She said that even after the injury, her work will not be interrupted and she will campaign in a wheelchair due to a leg injury. She said “Right now I need to be in a wheelchair for a few days. Even so, I will not let the elections get hampered and I will campaign in a wheelchair.”

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said in the video, “I hope to return to the ground in the next two to three days. The injury may still persist, however, I shall manage. I will not drop a single meeting. Maybe for a few days, I will have to take the help of a wheelchair. I want your support.” Voting will be held for the assembly elections on April 1 for the Nandigram seat. Mamta Banerjee will have to face her old colleague Shubhendu Adhikari for the seat.

Releasing the video from the hospital bed, the Chief Minister said, “I am urging everyone to remain calm and show restraint. Do not do anything that hurts people.” Before the video was released, information was also revealed regarding the face-to-face confrontation between TMC and BJP workers in many places in Bengal. TMC activists also staged protests in many places.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured while campaigning in Nandigram on Wednesday. She alleged that four to five people pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground, and injuries to her left leg, waist, shoulder, and neck have been found. The Chief Minister was then taken to Kolkata, where a team of doctors is treating her at SSKM Hospital. Doctors have said that the Chief Minister has suffered serious injuries in the ankles and leg bones of her left foot and her right shoulder, hands and throat have also suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment.

In this video released to the people of the state, Mamata Banerjee said, “It is true that I have suffered a leg bone and ligament injury. I also had chest and head pain after the incident. I was standing in the car and accepting the greetings of the people. There was so much pressure on me that I got injured. I took all the medicines that I had at the time and then came to Kolkata.”

However, the BJP claims that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is pretending to gain the sympathy of the people. At the same time, the BJP demanded a CBI inquiry into the case. BJP President of Bengal Dilip Ghosh said that there is a need to investigate what exactly happened. How a person under Z-Plus security was attacked is a matter of investigation. To bring out the truth, the state should order a CBI inquiry into the case.

The program to release the manifesto postponed after the ‘attack’

After the alleged attack on Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress postponed the program of releasing its manifesto for the upcoming elections in the state. Party President Banerjee was scheduled to issue the manifesto at her residence in Kalighat in the afternoon. A senior leader of the Trinamool Congress said that the program of issuing the manifesto has been postponed for some time. It will be released after Mamata Banerjee recovers and returns home. “Our manifesto is ready, however, we absolutely not release it in the absence of the Chief Minister” stated TMC. Mamata Banerjee released the list of 291 party candidates on March 5. Voting will begin in West Bengal on March 27 in eight phases. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
