Uttar Pradesh, 20th June 2023: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has announced a new scholarship program specifically designed for first-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students. The scholarship aims to support deserving candidates, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, by providing them with financial assistance of Rs 25,000.
The primary objective of this scholarship is to aid and empower meritorious students who face financial constraints while pursuing their dreams of becoming doctors. By alleviating their financial burden, the scholarship aims to enable these students to focus on their studies and excel in their academic pursuits.
The funding for this scholarship has been generously donated under the recently launched Pratidana scheme. This comprehensive initiative aims to enhance the overall educational experience of BHU students by increasing their access to resources, bolstering research infrastructure, and fostering an enriched teaching-learning environment. The visionary behind the Pratidana scheme is BHU Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Kumar Jain.
An official notice released by BHU reveals that the newly established scholarship, known as the Dr. Bhoj Raj Varma and Smt. Shanti Varma Memorial Scholarship, is named after close relatives of the esteemed donor, Dr. Ramesh Chandra Gupta. Dr. Gupta, the former head of the Department of Metallurgical Engineering at IT-BHU (now IIT BHU), has graciously contributed Rs 5 lakh to the university, thereby facilitating this scholarship scheme.
Furthermore, BHU has recently received a donation of Rs 10 lakh, which will be utilized to establish two scholarships for meritorious students pursuing Masters of Arts (MA) in Hindi. These scholarships will be awarded on a merit-cum-means basis, with one male candidate and one female student benefiting from the MA Hindi scholarship. These scholarships will be named after the Late Pt Ganga Ratan Pandey and his wife Jagrani Pandey. The generous contribution was made by their sons, Arun Pandey and Prakash Pandey, as a heartfelt tribute to their parents.
