New Delhi, 29 March 2022: Department of Health Research / Indian Council of Medical Research has recently launched a Policy on Biomedical Innovation & Entrepreneurship for Medical Professionals, Scientists and Technologists at Medical, Dental Para-Medical Institutes/Colleges to foster healthcare innovation and entrepreneurship in the country, with the purpose to ensure best care for the patients.

It has been informed by Department of Biotechnology (DBT) that it is promoting research efforts of academia including promotion of new and emerging technologies in medical devices (including diagnostics, implants, instrumentation) and their adoption. Through the Bio design program, DBT provides fellowship to young graduates in medical, engineering and science disciplines to develop affordable medical devices through clinical immersion process.

Department of Science & Technology has informed that it has supported Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Internet of Things (IoT), Internet of Everything (IoE), Data Engineering, Analytics & Science, etc.

National Medical Commission has stated that the Post Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000 regulates the medical institutes/colleges to have adequate laboratory facilities and latest equipment to provide all the investigative facilities required and updated keeping in view the advancement of knowledge and technology and research requirements.

The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar stated this in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
