New Delhi, 17th May 2021: According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), flight operations at Terminal 2 (T2) of Delhi Airport will be suspended from midnight on May 17 (Monday). The official said the decision was taken due to the decline in the number of passengers amid the Covid-19 epidemic.
DIAL said the move would help airlines and airports better manage their staff during epidemics. All operations will be shifted to Terminal 3 (T3), Dial said, adding that two airlines GoAir and Indigo which operate from T2, have been asked to relocate to T3.
The Covid-19 epidemic has badly affected the aviation sector. The number of passengers has declined, especially since the second wave of epidemics last month.
During the last few weeks, the number of domestic air passengers has increased from 2.2 lakh per day to about 75,000, according to figures from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. IGI Airport used to operate about 1,500 flights per day, but this number has come down to 325 flights per day.
