Patiala, 5th May 2022: 71 students of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law in Patiala, Punjab have been infected by COVID-19. The university authorities have been asked by officials to vacate the hostels by May 10 to prevent the further spread of the infection. The students found positive showed mild symptoms. They were kept in isolation in different blocks.

The Rajiv Gandhi National Law University has turned into a COVID hotspot in the district with 71 fresh cases. 86 positive cases have been reported from the university in the last four days. The university campus has been declared as a containment zone by the Health Department.

Health officials, including Patiala’s civil surgeon, reached the university on Wednesday to assess the situation. The officials collected 550 samples and sent them for testing. District epidemiologist Dr Sumeet Singh said, “Those who have tested positive have been isolated on the premises itself. Only a few positive cases had mild symptoms while others were asymptomatic.”
