New Delhi, 15th January 2022: On the auspicious occasion of Army Day, the Indian Army today showcased its new uniform at the parade ground.

The new combat uniform has been designed by keeping the theme of ‘Make In India’ in mind. It is a collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

The design team consisted of eight people including students and professors. The requirements and description for the uniform were given by the Indian Army.

The new changes have been implemented after studying and researching the uniforms of different countries. For a long time, the Indian Army was planning to bring changes into their uniform which would result in comfortable wear by both men and women in the Army.

Keeping in mind the different terrains where soldiers are posted, the comfort of the soldiers was the top priority. The material of the uniform is a combination of cotton and polyester which will be effective to wear in different weather conditions.

The new uniform has resulted in the elimination of the need to wear different uniforms in different terrains. It proves to be effective during operations.

The new uniform is a mixture of colors like Olive Green, Earthen shades, these comprise the shades of different terrains and deployment areas. The pattern is more like a pixelated design.

Besides the disruptive pattern and comfort, the uniform aims to provide excellent camouflage in harsh terrains.

Earlier, comparisons were being made between the new uniform and the uniform of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) but the Indian Army dismissed such comparisons by saying that both the uniforms are distinctively different.
