New Delhi, 1st May 2021: Former MP from Siwan (Bihar) Mohammad Shahabuddin died due to corona infection. Shahabuddin, who was serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail, was admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay the hospital, where his condition remained critical since yesterday.

The Delhi High Court had directed the Delhi government and Tihar Jail administration to provide medical supervision and proper treatment to Shahabuddin after he contracted corona. Word spread this morning that Shahabuddin had died.

Earlier in September last year, Sheikh Mohammad Hasibullah (90), father of former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin had passed away. At that time, approval was not given to bring Shahabuddin from Tihar on parole.

More than three dozen criminal cases are pending against former  Shahabuddin, who is serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail in connection with the murder. On February 15, 2018, the Supreme Court had ordered to be brought to Tihar from Siwan Jail in Bihar.

In Tihar Jail, Shahabuddin was kept in a completely different barrack. There is no other prisoner in that barrack except Shahabuddin. There are three such prisoners (Shahabuddin, Chhota Rajan, and Neeraj Bawana) in Tihar, who have been kept alone in different barracks. They do not get along with anyone. For the last 20-25 days, even their relatives are not being allowed to meet these prisoners. Despite all this, how Shahabuddin got infected with Corona is a matter of concern.
