Kolkata, February 21, 2021: A team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the coal smuggling case in Kolkata, West Bengal, reached the house of Abhishek Banerjee, nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday. According to media reports, the CBI team has reached home to summon Rujira Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee’s wife in the coal scam case. Abhishek Banerjee’s wife has been sent a notice by the CBI team to join the inquiry today.



The investigating agency is already conducting raids against several close associates of Abhishek Banerjee in the coal scam case. On 31 December 2020, a search operation was carried out in Kolkata against the Trinamool Youth Congress General Secretary Vinay Mishra in an animal trafficking case. The agency issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Mishra. Recently, Home Minister Amit Shah has directly attacked Abhishek Banerjee in several rallies. Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew has filed a defamation case against Amit Shah.



In the coal smuggling case, it has been alleged that the accused illegally mined coal, valued at several thousand crores, has been sold in the black market for many years by a racket run from western parts of West Bengal. In the early weeks of December, the CBI also raided the office of CA Ganesh Bagaria of Kolkata. BJP has surrounded the Trinamool Congress. BJP alleges that its main beneficiary has been Abhishek Banerjee.



After Vinay Mishra’s raid by CBI, former TMC leader Shubhendu Adhikari attacked Abhishek Banerjee. He tweeted that this is the true picture of team members in the nephew’s ‘capable’ leadership. What a fantastic team to take the team to a ‘different level’. “In the tweet, he mentioned Abhishek Banerjee as a nephew. At the same time, the main suspect in the case is Anoop Majhi alias Lala absconding and a lookout notice has already been issued by the investigating agency.
