Patna, 10th May 2021: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police and a team of Delhi Police have nabbed two cybercriminals involved in the home delivery of oxygen cylinders and medicines related to COVID-19 in Delhi. The arrest has been made in Danapur near Patna.

The accused were identified as Kishan Kumar and Sameer Khan. Both are residents of Takia Par at Danapur. According to the officials, both have cheated many people in Delhi and collected more than Rs 5 lakh.

A case was registered in Delhi on April 23, when there was a high demand for oxygen in the national capital. Delhi Police Cyber Cell contacted EOU in Patna and an investigation started. It was found during the investigation that fraud is being planned in Patna. A team of Delhi Police arrived and raids were conducted at Danapur under the guidance of EOU Additional SP V Dayal. The police have seized three bank passbooks, a cheque book, three ATM, PAN card and mobile phones.

Nayyar Hasnain Khan, ADG (EOU) said, “Two persons were arrested last night from Danapur area by our EOU team and Delhi police regarding black marketing of Oxygen cylinders and medicines. The fraudulent money had come into the bank account of these criminals. Account has been freezed by Delhi police.”

According to police, the accused persons had posted a message on social media sites that if there is a need for oxygen in Indirapuram or any other area of Delhi, they may contact the given number. The needy people used to contact their number without verifying. The accused provided the bank account numbers and after receiving the amount they used to switch off the mobile phone. The EOU found that the number used by the accused was purchased based on a fake address in Kolkata.

However, ADG Khan said that these accused have connections with Bihar and Jharkhand as well as cybercriminals of several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh. A big network is involved, their connection is being investigated.
