Patna, 5th June 2023: Aguwani-Sultanganj Bridge, which was under construction and crossed the Ganga River in Bihar, abruptly collapsed on Sunday. This is the second occurrence of this incident; this bridge is worth Rs 1,710 crores and has collapsed for the second time in 14 months.
Between Sultanganj in Bhagalpur and Aguwani in the Khagaria district, this four-lane bridge was being constructed. It was destroyed in less than 23 seconds, according to reports. State officials will conduct a comprehensive investigation into this incident, according to CM Nitish Kumar. A probe into what caused the unexpected collapse has been demanded. Pratyaya Amrit, additional chief secretary of the state road construction department, has been tasked by CM Kumar to find the culprits and punish them severely.
In an interview, CM Nitish Kumar says that, “It is not being constructed correctly that’s why it is collapsing again & again.”
Thankfully, no casualties were reported.
Videos of the collapse circulated widely on social media, attracting criticism from the opposition BJP.
In April 2022, it was claimed that the disaster had been caused by loose cable support, however, some had attributed the mistake to the use of subpar construction materials.
