Chennai, 10th August 20121: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption raided the residence of AIADMK MLA, SP Velumani in Tamil Nadu. During this, a large number of party workers and their supporters gathered outside the MLA’s house.

According to media reports, officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption launched searches at the house of former Tamil Nadu minister, SP Velumani and 51 other places in Coimbatore, Chennai, Kancheepuram and Dindigul on Tuesday morning. Raids are being conducted against him in a corruption case. The officials were also raiding the premises of the former minister’s close aides and contractors. During this period projects worth several crores were taken in Coimbatore and Chennai Municipal Corporations.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister, Palanivel Thyaga Rajan released a white paper on the previous day, clearing the picture of the state’s deteriorating economy. It said that now the old stance is not going to work as there is no scope left on the fiscal front. The situation is that today there is a public debt of Rs 2.63 lakh per family in the state. During this, Thyaga Rajan said, “The government of our party will help in changing the situation with political willpower and administrative skill.” He further said that releasing the white paper does not mean that we are going back on their commitment. The ruling DMK in the state used to criticize the AIADMK government for its mismanagement when it was in opposition. He had talked about bringing a white paper on the fiscal situation for transparency.
