New Delhi, 8th June 2021: Yoga guru Ramdev has responded to legal notice by a medical professional association on his comments against allopathic medicines and doctors saying it has no merit. He said it was based on incomplete information and a segment of the video of an hour-long meeting.

In his response, Ramdev has said that his comments were taken out of context. He was merely questioning the excessive use of experimental medicine.

He added that many medical experts have also expressed concerns about the overuse of experimental treatments and that many of them were later dropped from treatment protocols.

In response to the notice of the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA), Ramdev said, “The notice issued by you is completely false, devoid of merit and has been issued on the basis of incomplete information.”

Ramdev said last month that he was withdrawing the controversial remarks hours after Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan asked him to cancel it. Earlier, in a letter addressed to Ramdev, the Health Minister said, “People of this country are extremely hurt by your comments against allopathic medicines and doctors. Your clarification issued yesterday on your comments did not help much in healing the hurt sentiments of the people.”

Ramdev cited his statement that nearly 10,000 doctors died despite vaccination, and said he was echoing the public’s concern that medical professionals were dying despite vaccination.

According to the Indian Medical Association (IMA), 753 doctors have died of Covid-19 during the second wave of infections and 753 during the first wave. The IMA has said that no vaccine was available during the first wave and that most of those who died during the second wave was not able to get their shots.

Several medical associations joined the black ribbon protest called by the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Associations on June 1 to protest against Ramdev’s statements. The IMA has also sent a legal notice to Ramdev over this remark.
